WEDNESDAY, July 21, 2009
On Wednesday, July 22, 2010, we will head over to the Myrtle Beach Speedway (www.myrtlebeachspeedway.com) for some fun-runs and an autocross. Myrtle Beach Speedway is located just 2 miles west of the waterway bridge on US 501 towards Conway, S.C. 2007 was the first year we included this event and it was a huge success! In 2008, nearly 150 cars participated in the excitement and we are expecting many more in 2009. You can both come out and watch all the activity as a spectator ($5 per person) or pay just a little more ($20) and participate in all the fun. Gates are scheduled to open from 3:00pm until 9:00pm (although this may change to allow more track time!). This is a very unique opportunity. The MB Speedway is a NASCAR sanctioned, ½ mile oval track. Prior to the event, Speedway and MW Staff will lay cones on the racetrack to provide a safe, but challenging line around the racetrack. Fun-run participants get the chance to go out onto the track one car at a time and take a few laps at their own pace. Staying inside the cones insures speeds are kept within safe limits. This is an excellent photo and video opportunity and an absolute thrill for the driver. An autocross course will be set up on the track's infield during this event as well! The autocross course is set up and run by experienced personnel, ensuring safety and fun. Auto crossing gives the driver the opportunity to test their driving skills on a flat, coned course! The autocross will provide a low-speed chance to push your car's handling capability while testing the driver's skill behind the wheel! Both the fun-runs and autocross provide an excellent opportunity for participants to get a feel for open-track, road course-style events. The night ends with the annual Mustang Week Burnout Contest! Participants line up one at a time on the racetrack to light them up for the crowd! One fee allows you to take part in the autocross, fun-runs, and the burnout contest! Be sure to watch the Mustang Week website (www.mustangweek.com) for details on this event.

hi i just had a couple quick questions. This is my first year coming and i am very excited for it! It is my wife and I coming, and i noticed in the pics from last year you can have your passenger for the laps on the track and also for the autocrossing? I was also wondering would it cost $5 for her and $20 for me to participate or is it $20 for both if she rides along?

Also with the drag racing, i know it is $10 for my wife to spectate, now is is $10 entrance plus an additional $15 for me to race or just $15 to race?

Sorry for all of the questions, just working on seeing what its all gonna cost. We are both very excited to attend!

Thanks,
Ed Lynch

I'm glad that you posted this question. Last year was deff another leraning experience for all of us when it came to Drag Night and the entrance fee's. You are correct on having a passanger in the car with you for the Fun Run's. Now Drag Night on the other hand, last year was a 10.00 admission fee for Spectators and 15.00-20.00 fee to race. Trust me after last year's mishap the Mustang Week Staff will deff be on top of the Darlington Drag Strip Staff and Admission Fee's. They will have all of the details on fee's worked out and posted soon. So you can rest assure that they will post them soon.

The Darlington management dropped the ball last year but have assured us that they will be ready for 2010.

As for passengers at dragnight, I don't think you can do that. IHRA rules.

Is there pre-registration for the Autocross or is it first come first serve? Also is there going to be participant workgroups for cone-chasing or is it all provided? Thanks!

yeah, passengers are a huge no-no. Also, helmets are required if I'm not mistaken.

I have never worn a helmet for a MW Drag night, but go to a few tracks that require it for insurance reasons. If they went straight by the rules there would be about 5 of us that could run

Pre-registration was at the Planet Hollywood meet today. It's $5 to watch, $20 the run.

We got back a little while ago from the MB speedway event. Gotta say, this was a fun filled day!!! Lost count of how many times I went around the track with the fun runs. Burnout contest and autocross was fun to watch as well, when I wasn't in line or on the track
I have to say thanks to all the MW folks, the MB Speedway folks and any others that helped run this event (and the entire week), it was a great afternoon/evening. Looking forward to the rest of the week!!

Didn't get to see everything going on today. Once I got my only run in, I helped a buddy of mine and his wife keep the cars in line that were running on the track. Thank god they stepped up, otherwise it would have been a mess. Bo and Diane, you guys did a great job and I know from the comments I heard that alot of the drivers really appreciated it. Keep in mind people that they werent even apart of the MW staff, just two good people trying to lend a hand. Thanks guys.

MW Staff isn't supposed to be handling that parking and lining up of cars either. This is the battle we have to deal with each year with the Speedway and will be discussed again at length. We aren't supposed to have to do anything but show up and enjoy the event, but I spent from 2:30 until 9pm handling lines of cars. To all those that volunteered, thanks for you help in making things smoother!!

It's not a problem, we have some good people in our club and we were happy to lend a hand. I thought the track was supposed to handle things but wasn't sure. I know if we hadn't stepped up it would have been a total mess. The MW staff is doing a great job and we know from experience that things don't always go as planned. Just wish I could have gotten more than one run in, but it was still a good day. We got to see everyones cars as they went by.
