THURSDAY, July 22, 2010
Thursday, July 22, 2010, we make the trek back to Darlington Dragway (http://darlingtondragway.com/) for the annual Mustang Week Dragnight! The Dragway is an IHRA sanctioned ¼ mile track and is located just west of Darlington, S.C. at 2056 E. Bobo Newsome Hwy, Hartsville, S.C., 29550. Gates will be open from 3:00pm until 11:00pm. There is as $10 fee at the gate for spectators and a $15 fee for those who wish to take part in the event. The Dragnight event is run in the test-n-tune format, meaning participants can feel free to take as many runs as time will allow. This gives the driver the opportunity to try out their car and their skill on the ¼ mile for fun.

Mustang Week sponsors and vendors, including Pro-Dyno (704-651-3807 to schedule dyno time), will be set up at the Dragnight as well!

We feel that getting to the Dragnight is half the fun! A few participants and spectators choose to drive straight to the venue and some will come straight to the Dragway on their way to Mustang Week. Most will gather just before noon at the Hooters located at Myrtle Beach Mall near the intersection of US 17 and SC 22.

Soon after lunch we will kick off an informal, hour and a half cruise to Darlington Dragway. To most, the cruise to Darlington has become a yearly tradition! The Mustang Week Staff will be on hand to hand out directions to the Dragway and answer any questions you may have. As folks head out for Darlington, people follow along in small and large groups on their way to Darlington. There are no official lead cars, so if you haven’t made the trip before, find someone before the cruise takes off and follow behind. It is very exciting to see so many Mustangs and SVT's out on the road at the same time! In years past, there have been as many as 250 cars that took part in the cruise to Darlington. Needless to say, this provides some excellent photo and video opportunities. It also goes without saying that this many Mustangs and SVT’s draws the attention of local law enforcement agencies, so please obey all traffic laws and have a safe trip to and from the dragstrip!

Agreed!!! The gates need to be opened alittle earlier so we won't have the same situation we had last year...

Hey Guys
We are in contact with the track and they are aware of the challenges that were there last year and we are in works with them to avoid a repeat of that this year. We should be in much better shape with the track this year.

Thanks
Scott

Yes I know the guy that works there and he said the owner wasnt prepared for the flash flood of mustangs everywhere. We wont be in the road waiting this year.

Also I wish there was a set time for all of us to leave hooters. Last year we started out about 2 then added 2 more. By the time we made it to Florence we had like 17 mustangs in a row. It was so awesome. Maybe even just some people set a time and agree to leave then??? Its nice to see long lines of mustangs going down the hwy.

Well maybe if everyone just agrees on a time,...2pm?? And at 2pm just goto your car and go. If we can do this then we will have a large group leaving at the same time. I think in the last 2 yrs people wait and wait to see when others leave and we end up just scattered out. If we all get together and just agree on a time we will have a large line. How awesome that would be!!!

It's about 1 hour and 35-40 minutes if you don't stop and catch the trafficl lights on US 501. It's not a bad drive and with a group of Mustangs, it's a lot of fun!!

This is something I'll work on. Unfortunately, the Staff have to get to the track a bit early, so we can't "lead" the cruise. I'm going to recruit a couple folks to lead groups out of the Hooters lot at the same time. I also want to have Darlington directions ready to hand out starting Tuesday. More on this as we get closer!!

I did not attend this evet last year because of the distance to get there. We used this day as a beach day. But this year i think i might want to go!

We had a HUGE crowd at dragnight last year and most will tell you, getting there is half the fun!!! This year will flow much better since the entire night will be test-n-tune. Nothing to stop the flow of the staging lanes. Should be much better!

Sounds like a fun day but i do have a couple of questions as this will be my first trip to MW. Can any stang participate as I have a stock '07 GT/CS and have never been to a track before - so are rookies allowed as well? What do I need to know prior to going to the track if i want to run it?

Can only Mustangs run at dragnight? I am coming down with 6 friends all of which have Mustangs but 1, he has a pro-charged corvette. Just checking to see if he could run or not. Thanks

at one point it was brought up and to avoid issues it was said mustangs only, but it could have changed.

Only Mustangs and SVT are allowed to run at thsi event. We have allowed other Ford specific vehicles to run as well, but no other brands will be able to make passes on this night. If they would like to run, I believe the track as a normal test and tune night, that is one a different day, for all makes and models to make passes.

thanks

I really belive that you only have to have a valid driver's license, but I could be wrong though.

The track does require a helmet but they have not enforced it on that day but I'd bring one anyway just incase.

Any new news on the convoy from Hooters to Darlington?

As stated above I think you only have to have a valid driver's license to race.

I do know that unless they have changed things that they don't allow anyone to ride with you up the track.

Two years ago I was teaching my wife how to run her car at the track and I wanted to ride with her on her first pass. They wouldn't let me, but they were very 'nice' with her and helped her get 'pre-staged' and 'staged'. She had a blast that night!!

We are expecting the largest MW Dragnight crowd to date this year! With the '11 5.0 out and some of our sponsors being the frontrunners with that platform, it should be awesome!!

How was Drag Nite this year???

Bittersweet.

Someone lost their S-197... blew up towards the end of the track and burned the front end up fairly bad...:(

Aside from that, there were a few close calls with the wall and I set a new personal best and took some cars that I could never have had a chance against before.

Great crowd, terrible heat.

How was Drag Nite this year???

Much better than last year. There were still some traffic issues though with people trying to get out and having to drive through the staging lanes. Also I was thinking last night while laying in bed and trying to get to sleep about why the spectator dont have to park on the spectator side of the track. That would also help greatly with the congestion issues.
