The Excitement of Mustang Week

Each year Wesley and I head out for MW and there is always a special excitement. The trip down seems to be most special. We turn up the radio and hoop and hollar like crazy!! We look at every stang we see and wonder if they are heading the same way. We dodge logging trucks and pot holes to protect the stang. Once in MB the excitement is in the air. Finally...IT IS TIME FOR MW!!! A great annual trip for us. What is your anticipation???

Anyone leaving out on Saturday the 18th that wants to meet up with us along the way, let us know. We are hoping to be in Columbia by 8:00 am to "hopefully" beat some of the traffic on 501 heading in.

Last year, I was in Greenville working and hanging out with Bones and the SEFB crew. I was starting to get excited about going when I got the call to head to Haiti that same week... I was truly bummed.:mad:

This year, my wife calls me with the dates, I quickly pulled out the calendar and started planning my next 3 vacations targeting July 20-26.... It worked, I'll be leaving a very small Forward Operating Base high in the Afghani mountains. First stop will be Bagram Air Base via Black Hawk where I'll pick-up my Charter flight to Dubai.... there I'll set (at the bar:D ) for 6 hours before the 14 hour flight to Atlanta and then on to Jacksonville Fl where my lovely bride will meet me with my car.... :tup: I'll only have 2 days home and then it's off on the 6 hour drive to the beach. There is nothing better IMO that a road trip... people riding by waving, taking photos, throwing a thumbs up.... Stopping for gas and having people coming up to look and talk about the car... best of all is watching little boys with there parents:) dragging mom and dad toward the car in excitement. :cool:

Now, multiply all that times 100. That's what's been keeping me awake at night.... And it's still 2 weeks away!! I feel like a giddy school child getting out for the summer, spending every waking moment with several hundred friends doing what they do best... Play and Play Hard we shall!!!!:D

I too enjoy the ride down to MB. When my daughter and I pack up the car and head out on Monday is always great. We go "the back way" to MB from our house so we spend as little time on the interstates as possible. To me that is when the excitement really amps up. Just like CWD, as you begin to see Mustangs you wonder if they are headed to MW also! Its getting close!!

I always say the same thing to my girlfriend when we're heading down, "do you think they are headed to mustang week?". Mustang Week is the best week of the whole year, I cannot wait. There isnt one thing you can pick out and say it is the most fun part of the week, every day is fun!

we always lave early and drive the first 600 miles or so in 1 day, then stop overnight and meet up with the crew early for the last 3 hours or so. i normally start looking for stangs once we pass up Atlanta heading east down and bound for the beach!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love it. I put gas in the GT today and will start cleaning it next week. Its parked till Mustang Week. The ride down is great. I try to leave out of my house early and hit breakfast down in Fort Mill at the Hardees. Usaly eat with a couple of the Hells Angels. Laugh and cut up with them for awhile then start the long back roads into Myrtle Beach. Usaly get to the 1/2 way point around lunch time and get a burger at a place called Cindys. Well that place has been shut down for the last couple months so it throws me off some. After I get threw McBee I stop at the Peach Farm and get a nice milkshake to wash the burger down with. This place also has a garage with some KILLER stangs if you have time you should really check it out. Then its off to the backroad of Quimby where I will pass acouple of old Civil War plantations that are still in running order. At the end of that road its the long road on Highway 501. I make a side turn and head out towards the campgrounds and that is the LONGEST 14 mile road in the history of 14 mile roads. End of that road I will take a right and head down towards the inlet and stop at Suck Bang Blow for cold drink again with some Hells Angels and then its on to the campground to relax the rest of the day before I get to hear Brandon ( Redfireshakergt) tell me how this state is tooo hot. :tup:

O yea!! she loves cleaning on it as much as I do..It feels good to relax in the garage, radio playing and just having laughs and a good time..also learning her and answering questions she may have. My WHOLE family is excited this year (for obvious reasons I guess) hehe But I can't wait ,not only to get my car, see the look on Mike's face, when he sees the look on mine; but to see what the Lord is going to do this week. Its gonna be so awesome, seeing all my MW buddies again, cruisning around with yall, Worshiping with ya'll, getting up your trash, and hanging out with the Youth Group! THIS is the week I look forward too all dang year!!! My group of friends & I obsess over Mustang Week all year. Every November/December, we start talking about where we want to stay... do we have enough people going to rent a house, or are we just gonna get a hotel on the main drag? So we're literally counting down the days once Christmas is done. We've been at Mustang Week every year since 2005, and come hell or high water I'll be there every year!

Getting down there is half the fun for us. There's usually at LEAST 10 people in our group, but we've had as much as 16 people with 9 cars in the convoy; 6 of 'em Mustangs. Seeing the look on people's faces when they drive by us, when we stop at gas stations, and when we stop to eat... it's priceless. We've pretty much got a routine that we try to do every year. We usually stay from Saturday to Saturday, so we have 3 extra days to do "the beach thing," and we always say "what happens at Mustang Week stays at Mustang Week" LOL. We never miss any of the MW activities, but it seems that the Meet & Greet is always our favorite. There's just something in the air there. Everything's just beginning, and it's your first chance to see any of the "new" stuff that somebody may have. I personally love the Fun Runs too. I'm SO glad that was added a couple years ago! But we also always go to certain places to eat (Miyabi, J. Edwards, Thorny's, Dick's) and going to The Bowery and The Garden City Pier is a MUST. This year, Mustang Week isn't going to be what it was before for a few reasons. Alot of my buddies aren't going down and it's just not gonna be the same without them. This was "our" time together. A couple of my buddies are going down but they are going down before us and staying up in North Myrtle, so no convoy for me. I also am not bringing my Lightning this year. I am coming down with my mother for a getaway trip. My stepdad just passed away due to a sudden annurism a little more than a month ago, so this is our time to escape all the memories. Mom is an old hotrodder, and she's always been interested in Mustang Week. This was her idea to come down for MW, so this iweek will be even more sentimental to me because it'll be a healing time.

But doing all these activities, and just having Mustangs everywhere just adds to the excitement. Our family goes to Myrtle Beach all the time, and to be honest, I didn't care much for Myrtle Beach until I went during Mustang Week. It's my favorite time of the year!!!

I have to say that all the organizers do such a wonderful job every year. This thing just keeps getting bigger & better. You guys work so hard and believe me it is definitely appreciated.

Wouldnt you know it. Just a little pre-mustang week luck. I started cleaning my engine bay about an hour ago and when I got less thatn half-way done it came a down pour. Im begining to htink some one upstairs is a comedian and loves to watch me drag out the water hose. But Im not mad its been blistering hot all day and the rain cooled it off some. As Im typing this the rain has already stopped and its starting to clear back up. Ha Ha very funny, its a good thing I have a since of humor......
