My son's got an '04 GT he's done a few mod's to and now he wants to get 4.10 gears and a XE268H comp cam. He is 17, this is his daily driver and he likes to take this car to the local autocrosses. These are pretty expensive mod's, are they worth the money? Is he going to see a significant change in horsepower, gas mileage, etc?

I would pass on the cam's if I were him. For the performance gain vs. the $$$ spent it's not worth it. I would deff say yes to the gears and spend the cam $$$ on a good suspension kit or full length sub frame connectors, pan hard bar, poly bushings or Steeda control arms. I put alot of $$$ into my cars suspension's and it is deff worth it and makes the car more fun to drive. Check out the video in this link, see what 300HP can do with a properly setup suspension http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/pics-videos-buffet-149/671379-how-blow-doors-off-z06.html

Trust me the install isn't worth the time or aggervation just for the sound, open up the intake and exhaust and let it breathe and rev freely so that he can keep the the RPM's in the upper range while on the auto cross and increase the engine's astheitcs as well. I would look into upgrading the cooling system as well and keep the heat out or extract it from under the hood and then box in the radiator area for better cooling.

That was actually him using my name to reply to you. He was glad to see someone support him on the gear change, but he is soooo hardheaded when it comes to the cams. We(his parents) think that is way too much money for him to spend for a sound. It's hard to reason with a 17 year old!!! LOL Thanks for the input, he's already looking into the upgrades you suggested.

Take a look at this, this is the kit that I have on my 03 Cobra Vert and it has made a night and day difference in the feel of the car, it is worth the $$$ and I highly reccommend this kit to anyone with a Mustang http://store.kennybrown.com/product/chassis-support/extreme-matrix-subframe-system

Your Welcome! Don't forget the polyurathane upper and lower control arm bushings, you might as well go ahead and upgrage the stock rubber one's while you are working in that area.
