I have recently been considering purchasing a newer model mustang, possibly a 2011 GT. If i get one, I won't be able to leave it stock forever. The only problem is that I happen to live in one of the counties in North Carolina which requires the OBD-II emissions plug in for inspection on all vehicles MY 1996 and newer. Is there any way I would be able to make modifications (anything from as simple as an intake to possibly a supercharger down the road) and tune the car so that it would run and pass this inspection? I would be especially interested in answers from people who also live in counties with this kind of inspection or from tuning shops who have clients from these counties. Any help is greatly appreciated

pretty much if you leave the emissions equipment on the car and have no check engine light you are good to go. A tune from pro-dyno or similar will not affect your inspection. Some mods may affect factory warrenty.

Some tunes will affect the inspection, even though they don't throw a check engine light. A perfect example of this is the fact that many tunes are set in manner that disables the rear O2 sensors. This will not throw a check engine light, but the OBD test will see the sensors as "not ready" and therefore will not pass the car.

Make sure your tuner knows that you want an emissions friendly tune. In my case, I've got one emissions friendly tune for this purpose, and the others disable the rear O2 sensors. I can swap them back and forth at will.

I've had my '07 for 5 years w/ mods added within the 1st year... I have yet to pass an emission inspection. I can't find anyone to take time to help. But I have not talked to Dyno Dan yet.

I've done intake, exhaust, pulleys and a tune to mine with no inspection issues. I also went with a catted x pipe just to make sure nothing comes up later. Some say you can still pass with the o2 sensors cut off in the tune or mil elimators but they are supposed to do a visual check for the emisions equipment and no cats would cause you not to pass if they did that. good high flow cats cause very little restriction anyway.
