I have a 88 coupe 2.3 5 speed. My problem is that it wont start, cranks no start. I had to put a fuel pump in it and a starter just to get to this problem. Good spark, good fuel pressure(well, I push the schrader valve and it sprays pretty far), checked power at fuel injector and it has power and flashes ground(like its supposed to). I spray fuel into the throttle body and it runs and runs good, loud no exhaust. I guess its the injectors, just dont want to realize it. The car has been sitting for years. Anyone seen any problems other than the injectors?? Anyone have a way to clean them easy?? Thanks.

I had an 88 2.3 5 speed years ago. I had the front brakes lock up on me once while turning a curve in heavy rain. It hit a ditch and when I had it towed home I couldn't get it to start. I did just like you except for checking the schrader valve. I sprayed gas into the throttle body and it ran just as yours is doing, but mine just cut off as yours is doing. I finally realized that there is a inertia switch located in the trunk that cuts the fuel pump off in the case of an impact. Maybe the switch has tripped on you for some reason while you were working on the car. If I remember right the switch is located on the back panel somewhere next to where the hatch or trunk(coupe) latches close.

Just a thought..

I had the same problems with an 88 Ford Ranger. Come to find out the injector on the #3 and #5 cylinders were the problem. I pulled one of them from the fuel rail and about a table spoon of what looked like rusted gas came out of the rail and the topside of the injector was completly stopped up. The other side wasn't nearly as bad a the first one. I also changed the fuel filter also. Make sure that you MAF is clean and has a good connection, check your wire and plugs also. How old is the gas in the car? Was the old gas if there was any in the tank prior to putting in new gas? I would also remove the hard chrome EFI line under the hood and use a air compressor to blow out and remove any build up or blockage in the line. I have used these guys to clean, rebuild, and flow match my injectors and they did an awesome job!

OK. Ill try taking it apart. All I have is time right now. I know its not the inertia switch because the fuel pump runs with KOEO and KOEC. I need to change the fuel filter but I did a fuel sample test before and after the filter and I'm getting fuel. As for the MAF, theres not there, Not/Applicable. Fuel tank is new. No old gas in it. Wires are MSD and plugs are old at best, but it will start with sprayed fuel. Thanks for any info. If it runs then it will be turboed and Blown.

Well took it apart and got my dad to turn it over with the injectors out of the intake and only 1 wash spraying. Took them all out and tested with my power probe II(everybody should have one), and 3 were not pulsing. I have 4 left over 30 lb-hr. injectors so I put them in it and it runs, not good, very very rich, but it runs. I added a leaf blower and it runs better, then took the leaf blower off and it stopped running... Got an idea I held the gas to the floor and my dad open the N2O into the throttle body. It ran GREAT. Pleanty of power and a little black smoke so its still rich. It was so funny my sides are hurting now. Just looking for a set of stock (19 lb-hr??) injectors. Is stock 2.3 19 lb injectors?? They have white/tan tops.

yes 2.3 stock injectors are 19lbs, the ones from a frod randger will work also. Or pretty much and stock ford V8 minus the 93 Cobra and Lightnings. 87-2002injectors are pretty much the same I can not remember the year where the D-shaped plug on the injectors change to the P-shaped plug I belive they changed in 2003 but I'm not 100% sure. I wish I could have seen yall with the leaf blower and the N20!!!!!!!! If you do that again host it on youtube.com I would love to see that!

I found the stock injectors under my tool box. Put them in and it runs and runs good. Yeah the leaf blowr and nitrous was funny and very loud. In a 2 car garage with my Falcon on the other side, no intake just throttle body and no exhaust just manifold. I seen fire shoot out the manifold when I sprayed the nitrous. There is a video on Streetfire.net of the samething thats where I got the idea.

Here it is.

:D Man, my stomach pure hurts from just visualizing that in my head! LOL!!! That is too funny!!!! I have done some stuff like that my self and look back on it and laugh my A$$ off and really wonder how nobody got hurt and still laugh about it.:D LOL!!!!! Is your Falcon a 2 door hard top? My Father has 65 Futura 2 Dr hard top 4-speed. He got it brand new in December of 64 the year my grandfather passed away. It is still 90% orginal and rusty free. It has seen many years of hardcore street and strip racing. I finally convinced him to go to an electronic distributor 2 yrs ago and trash the points. I love the car and wish I could find a 64-65 2 dr hard top with a 4 speed or a C4.

Its a 64 Sedan 2 door post car, not the "fastback". I found it at a body shop for $200. The floors, door, fenders, quarters are rusty. Entire floor was fiberglassed in. It was a 144 cu-in. and a Ford-O-Matic 2 speed. I have backhalfed it. Full tube chassis 12 point cage. M/T 21.50 slicks and now I'm working on the tin work, need to build me a C4 and a bad bad small block with ALOT of N2O. I wanna go 5.99 or faster in the 1/8th and still be street legal.

What does his run in the 1/8th or 1/4th?? Do you know the mph?? I wanna know what they do stock.

Well his is no where near stock performance, Dad is an old school Super Stock racer. His car is a HIGH RPM FREAK! When it was completley stock in Jan of 65 he ran the 1/4 mile is 14.3 @91mph. The last time it was ran on a track in the 1/8 mile it went 8.40 with only 1st and 2nd gear and on the breaks due to wringing the front and rear u-joints, broken drive shaft, cracked the trasmission casing, and a damaged clutch as well. I know the car has mid to low 6's in it. The car has never been tubbed, has a stock 9' rear, stock block, stock crank, stock rods, stock heads= minor port work, Victor Jr. intake, Holley 4150 780cfm=heavily modified by him. He drives the car on the street manily on Friday's and the weekends. The car is registered and street leagal. I have personaly seen him shift the car over 10,000 rpm. He usually comes off the line at about 8,500 or 9,000 rpm. His car is basically an old school "Gear Jammer Class" car nowadays. It still has the 289 in it.

Has he ran it at piedmont dragway lately? I'd love to see that thing set out on a 6.0 pass.

No, We run local tracks and a few here and there. You really don't see many Falcons anywhere anymore. Have you ever been to a "Gear Jammer Race" It is all old school heads up racing, No electronics, no power adders, no lexan, no fiberglass front ends, etc there are only a few strict rules. These are the best races I have ever been to.

I am running steel and glass. No fibergalss (maybe a teardrop hood) and no lexan. Its going to be like an A/FX replica that I can race. I'm going hi-tech on the electronics, nitrous but the rest will be stock, exterior wise.

:D Good Choice on the route that you are going with the car. I love to see all of the old school cars look like they did back in the day at the track. The look is killer.

I'm now looking for the hood, quarters and rear glass. Along with many other parts so looking for a good donor car.

I too would go with the Thunder Bolt "Tear drop" hood. I have always liked that hood on Falcons, and Comets. Now if is could run up on a deal on Thunder Bolt! Falcon donor cars are hard to come by in this area. I have not seen many Falcons in my life any where.

This bodyshop near liberty had 3-4 falcons and now has 1. Its a solid sedan post car. The old man wants $75 and I dont have anywhere to store another car.

That is worth buying and just renting a storage lot by the month to store it in.
