Ten years of Mustang Week! That is a monumental accomplishment for any event! The Mustang Week Staff would like to extend our most sincere thanks to everyone that made the past ten years of Mustang Week an overwhelming success! It amazes us to watch as Mustang Week continues to steadily grow and become the premier Mustang and SVT-based events of the year. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the help of the Mustang Week sponsors, vendors, and participants. We are grateful for the support they continue to give. We understand what it takes for people to attend a week-long event. Simply put, without you Mustang Week simply would not happen.
This year brought some of the hottest weather we've seen during Mustang Week. But that didn't stop participants from having a great time! We kicked off the week with the Mustang Week VIP party at Ride Makerz at Broadway at the Beach. This was the second annual VIP Party where Ride Makerz gave 100 lucky participants a free toy car to build and customize! There were some excited kids and adults!
Tuesday's Meet-n-Greet at Planet Hollywood was just phenomenal! Just over 500 cars were in attendance as Mustangs and SVTs filled every available parking space at Planet Hollywood and Legends In Concert! Overflow had to park across the street at Broadway at the Beach, in some of the surrounding hotels, and even in the wooded area surrounding the event! This event has quickly become a crowd and Staff favorite! Folks lined up for the entire afternoon to be one of the first to get one of the highly anticipated 10th Anniversary Mustang Week t-shirts! The afternoon was capped off with the unveiling of the Palmetto Ford Mustang Week Cruiser!
Wednesday carried Mustang Week back to the Myrtle Beach Speedway for a revised schedule. New for 2011, we broke the day's events into three separate parts. Early in the morning autocross veterans and newcomers took a turn at the infield course. The autocross has quickly become a yearly favorite for many! In the afternoon we transitioned over to Fun Runs around the ½-mile oval! This year's setup allowed participants a much more spirited experience. 220 cars took part and 1500 attendees watched all the excitement. The night ended with a show-stopping burnout contest!
On Thursday, we ventured to Darlington International Dragway for the Mustang Week Dragnight. 195 cars participated and over 1500 spectators watched all the quarter-mile fun. The night was action packed! For a second year in a row, spectators filled the stands on both sides of the racetrack. The Darlington Dragway staff really stepped up their game and had the track ready to run before the crowds arrived. The track had been prepped with special glue for hot weather and it work great! Staging lanes were open all afternoon and evening and participants could take as many passes as they could stand! Clear weather also made the trip to and from Darlington fun for all!
As always, Friday's Car Show never fails to disappoint! The "sold out" show field was filled with over 600 of the finest Mustangs and SVT's to be found! We even had to park many of the display only cars in overflow parking. Participants and attendees could also get a good look at all of the Mustang Week Sponsors and Vendors who were out in full-force! Our vendors and sponsors really revved it up this year! Monster Energy Drinks was on board this year and really added to the excitement! Miss Jessica Barton was on hand to sign posters as well! The Mustang Week Staff again called on the help of Stangs-R-Us Mustang Club to quickly and efficiently park the show field. Their help was very valuable! Walking this show field gave spectators and participants a chance to see the best the Mustang community has to offer! This year we called on participants to volunteer as car show judges and a great group answered the call. With their help, judging was completed on schedule. In 2012 we will again be looking for judging volunteers and if you have prior judging experience, it will be your way to become more involved with Mustang Week!
Saturday we closed the week with the annual Mustang Week Cruise-In. The Cruise-In is the largest gathering of Mustangs and SVT's found on the east coast and the Tenth Anniversary of the event did not disappoint! Over 2000 cars quickly filled the show field and surrounding lots. Grabberpony.com hosted their 5th Annual Grabber Rally this year at the mall! Several model-specific cruises added to the excitement! The annual Fox Body cruise, the SN95/New Edge cruise, the SVT cruise, the S-197 cruise, and the Coyote cruise all gave participants to roll into the Mustang Week Cruise-In in style! Participants and spectators also got a chance to check out the Mustang Week Cruiser! One lucky participant and parking volunteer even took one of the Mustang Week editions home for himself! Just over 8000 people came out to the mall to enjoy the fun on Saturday!
The Tenth Anniversary Mustang Week was again a total success! Thank you to everyone who attended and took part, especially the Mustang Week Sponsors, vendors and participants! We are already hard at work to make sure 2012 is even better!
The Staff has really enjoyed the past ten years and look forward to seeing you all next July for the Eleventh Annual Mustang Week!
