Mustang Week 2013 Event Overview
Mustang Week Staff | 10.16.2012 | 18:03:27 | Views: 32193

The first thing you may notice about the Mustang Week schedule is that the majority of the events don't start until the afternoon. We, the Staff, want participants to have a chance to enjoy their vacation at the beach just as much as they enjoy having fun with their cars. We are excited that people chose to spend a week in Myrtle Beach with us away from their day-to-day lives. Don't forget to stop by the Mustang Week trailer and tents to say hello, pick up Mustang Week collectibles and get an arms-length of raffle tickets! Enjoy your week at the beach and drive carefully!

We start the week with a bang on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, with the annual Meet-n-Greet at the Palace Theatre at Broadway at the Beach. The event has grown to one of the favorite events of the week. The Mustang Week Staff have again teamed up with the Palace Theatre to bring our opening event to this incredible venue. The Palace Theatre is located at the intersection of US 17 Business and 21st Street, at the award winning "Broadway at the Beach" Entertainment complex. The Meet-n-Greet will take place in the Palace's northern-most parking lot, closest to US 17. The Palace Theatre venue allows the Meet-n-Greet ample parking space and provides a much smoother and controlled entrance/exit path. This helps make the event safer for everyone and makes it easier for Myrtle Beach vacationers to stop by and check out all the best that Mustang Week has to offer! The event is scheduled to run from 12:00pm until4:00pm and is a fun, informal gathering to start the week off.

The Palace Theatre plays host to some of the most spectacular live entertainment shows, Broadway theatre productions and musicals from around the world, including MASTERS OF ILLUSION for 2013! Their management is going to offer a special discount for Mustang Week Participants to check out this very exciting show. The Palace Theatre will open its lobby so participants can enjoy concessions, buy discounted show tickets, and utilize facilities. Plus, there are many great restaurants within walking distance! Check out the Palace online at for all the entertainment options they have to offer.

In 2012, over 550 Mustangs and SVT's filled the lot and gave returning attendees the chance to see friends from previous years and newcomers to meet new friends. It's very laid back and some folks come straight off the highway from their journey to Mustang Week. You can come and go as you please and with this year's earlier schedule you have the entire evening to get a jump on all the other exciting things Myrtle Beach has to offer. Most participants choose to get there a little early and stay the entire time and some choose to stop by for only an hour or two. The choice is yours!

If you've never been to Mustang Week, the Meet-n-Greet turnout will seem overwhelming, but it is only a glimpse of the week to come! This is where you first see the major difference between Mustang Week and all other car shows and events. You will see everything from classics and pristine show cars to built drag cars and daily driven street cars. The Meet-n-Greet is where you get a real feel for the sense of"family" that has grown over the past nine years.

Once again, in 2013, a brand new Mustang will be unveiled for the first time to the lucky participants at this year's Meet-n-Greet. This will be the fourth installment for Palmetto Ford, of Charleston, SC, and the Mustang Week Staff. We partnered together to build a one of a kind 2014 Mustang Week Edition5.0 Ford Mustang, which was designed by the Staff. Better yet, you could own one of these cars for yourself! Give Tony Barron a call at Palmetto Ford (843-343-7997) to see how you can get your hands on a Mustang Week Edition 5.0!

There is no registration required and no cost for attending the Meet-n-Greet. This will also be the first opportunity to purchase the yearly Mustang Week t-shirt and raffle tickets. The Mustang Week Staff will be on site and available to answer any questions and provide updates and information about the rest of the week's events. The Myrtle Beach Speedway manager will also be on hand to pre-register folks for Wednesday's Speedway event.

A Special Tuesday Event

New for 2013, on Tuesday, July 16th, BFGoodrich Tires will host the Mustang Week Autocross Driving School at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Skip Barber Racing School instructor Terry Earwood, with his staff of highly experienced professional drivers will teach students a variety of skills to lower autocross lap times. A brief classroom session will be followed by a track walk and drive time in your car will be the focus with the professional driver coaches riding in your passenger seat.

Two sessions will be offered:
Session 1: 10am – 1pm
Session 2: 2pm – 5pm

Entry fee will be $40 per car/driver. Seats are limited to 24 per session for maximum 1 on 1 instruction and seat time. Registration will be online on the Mustang Week website (www.mustang and will be first come, first served.

On Wednesday, July 17, 2013, we head to the Myrtle Beach Speedway( for a day of autocross, Speedway fun runs, and the official Mustang Week burnout contest sponsored by SVT Performance. Myrtle Beach Speedway is located just 2 miles west of the waterway bridge on US 501, towards Conway, S.C. 2007 was the first year we included this event and it was a huge success! In 2012, the Speedway filled to capacity as 265 cars and over 1,500 people took part in the fun.

The Autocross sponsored by MRT-Direct & Gateway Classic Mustangs and Speedway fun runs sponsored by Stiffler's will run simultaneously from 10am until 5pm. The SVT Performance Burnout Contest will be held promptly at 5:00pm. We have confirmed that fees to participate in this year's eventwill be $25 for car and driver. You can also come to watch all the fun from the stands for $5 per personas well. Be sure to watch the Mustang Week website ( for more important information and details on the Speedway event.

The autocross course is set up and run by experienced personnel, ensuring safety and fun. Auto crossing gives the driver the opportunity to test their driving skills on a flat, coned course. The autocross will provide a low-speed chance to push your car's handling capability while testing the driver's skill behind the wheel. In 2012, there was a continuous line of cars waiting to give the autocross a try. This year's all-day schedule allows participants more chances at the course. If you've never tried an autocross then you are in for a real treat!

The Speedway fun runs are a very unique opportunity. The MB Speedway is a NASCAR sanctioned, ½-mile, oval track. Fun run participants get the chance to go out onto the track one car at a time andtake a few laps at their own pace. Staying inside the cones insures speeds are kept within safe limits. This is an excellent photo and video opportunity and an absolute thrill for the driver. Prior to the event, Speedway and Mustang Week Staff will position cones on the racetrack to provide a safe, but challenging line around the racetrack.

At 5pm the annual official Mustang Week Burnout Contest takes over the Speedway! Participants lineup one at a time on the racetrack to light them up for the crowd! Some of the best Mustang Week videos found online after the 2012 were taken during the burnout contest!

As if Wednesday couldn't get any better, if you have paid as a participant or spectator at Wednesday's Speedway event prior to 5pm… you get to see the Myrtle Beach Speedway's Wheels of Destruction Thrill Show for free! This family friendly thrill show is like no other you have ever seen, full of flames, explosions, wrecks and racing! The show includes fireworks, stunt cars, freestyle motocross, bus racing, and much, much more! That's right, after a day of autocross, fun runs on the speedway, and the ever popular burnout contest, you can then grab a seat in the stands and enjoy the Wheels of Destruction Thrill Show at 7:30pm!

Thursday, July 18, 2013, we make the trek to Darlington Dragway ( for the annual Mustang Week Drag Night! This event has grown by leaps and bounds the past couple of years and we expect 2013's turnout to be great! The Dragway is an IHRA sanctioned ¼ mile track and is located just west of Darlington, S.C. at 2056 E. Bobo Newsome Hwy, Hartsville, S.C., 29550. Gates will be open from 3:00pm until 11:00pm. There is as $10 fee at the gate for spectators and a $15 fee for those who wish to take part in the event. The Drag Night event is run in a test-n-tune format, allowing participants to take as many runs as they would like and as time will allow. This gives the driver the opportunity to try out their car and their skill on the ¼ mile for fun. In 2012, 265 cars participated and1,800 spectators watched all the Drag Night excitement. Staging lanes will be open all afternoon and evening and last year we heard of several participants that were able to make more than 15 passes!

Many of the Mustang Week sponsors and vendors will be set up at the Drag Night as well! It is a night filled with excitement!

ALL cars and drivers are expected to use the safety gear required by Darlington International Dragway( Drivers are expected to wear closed-toed shoes while on the track, and long pants are preferred.

We feel that getting to the Drag Night is half the fun! A few participants and spectators choose to drive straight to the venue and some will come straight to the Dragway on their way to Mustang Week. Most will gather just before noon at the Hooters located at Myrtle Beach Mall near the intersection of US 17and SC 22. Soon after lunch we will kick off an informal, hour and a half cruise to Darlington Dragway. To most, the cruise to Darlington has become a yearly tradition! The Mustang Week Staff will be on hand to hand out directions to the Dragway and answer any questions you may have. As folks head out for Darlington, people follow along in small and large groups on their way to Darlington. There are no official lead cars, so if you haven't made the trip before, find someone before the cruise takes off andfollow behind. It is very exciting to see so many Mustangs and SVT's out on the road at the same time! In years past, there have been as many as 300 cars that took part in the cruise to Darlington. Needless to say, this provides some excellent photo and video opportunities. It also goes without saying that this many Mustangs and SVT's draws the attention of local law enforcement agencies, so please obey all traffic laws and have a safe trip to and from the drag strip!

Time to clean up your ride on Friday, July 19th, 2013 as the 10th Annual Mustang Week Car Show takes over Myrtle Beach Mall (intersection of US 17 and SC 22). The 2012 show brought another sell-out crowd of 600 cars in the show and just over 7,500 spectators! The car show has quickly become one of the best all-around Mustang car shows onthe East Coast. All participating show cars must be a Ford powered Mustang or factory SVT vehicle. Spectators and participants will have the chance to see everything from mild to wild and from classic Ponies to late models just off the lot!

Mustangs and SVTs will be judged on the overall cleanliness and quality of presentation. We will look at the interior of the car, the engine compartment, the body, the wheels, and tires. We will not judge convertible tops or side glass since they are optioned to be down during the judging period. Since most people make the trip to Mustang Week in their Mustang and carry most of the cleaning gear with them, we will not judge trunks either. People who do win at the Mustang Week Car Show take cleaning serious and it shows. The Staff understands that you are not at home with all your "normal" cleaning products and procedures. BUT... each year folks drive a long way to Mustang Week and always manage to get their cars REALLY clean!

For those that wish to be part of the judging, the pre-registration fee is $30. Registration for the judged portion of the car show will be by pre-register only on the Mustang Week website( and will open in mid April. The car show always sells out online prior to the actual event, so register early to ensure you get a spot. No late entries will be accepted. Some participants choose the "display only" option for $10, which will be available for online registration as well. Check-in for the show will be between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. Judging will run from 11:00 am until4:00 pm. This year we ask that all participants in the judged portion of the show please do not take your car out of the show field until the Mustang Week Staff announces that judging is completed. It would be a shame if your car qualified for a "best of" trophy and it was not there for Staff review after initial judging was completed.

A special thanks goes out to LMR, presenting and awarding the Awards of Excellence for the Mustang Week 2012 Car Show.

The car show awards will be presented at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 20th in front of the Mustang Week tents and trailer. The show field is located in the southwestern corner of the mall's parking lot, adjacent to Bass Pro Shops. Participants will enter the show field on the service road at the rear of the mall. Mustang Week Staff and volunteers will be present to help with parking. In 2013 we will again be looking for judging volunteers and if you have prior judging experience, it will be your way to become more involved with Mustang Week!

The Mustang Week sponsors and vendors will be out in full force at the show as well. This offers participants and spectators the opportunity to talk one-on-one with industry professionals and get great deals on some of the hottest new products. Pro-Dyno will again be on hand with their portable dyno to give you a chance to see what kind of power your car/truck can make!

One company really stepped up and raised the bar in 2012 and is returning for the 2013 Mustang Week Car Show! The Awards of Excellence for this year's show are presented and sponsored by Latemodel Restoration. We are very excited to announce this partnership and winners of an Award of Excellence will be thrilled with the trophy that includes Latemodel Restoration's and Mustang Week's logos!

Saturday, July 20, 2013, ends the week-long fun with the East Coast's Largest Mustang and SVT Cruise-In! The Cruise-In takes place at the Myrtle Beach Mall (same venue as Friday's Car Show) and runs from12:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The sheer volume of Mustangs and SVT's at the Cruise-In never ceases to amaze participants and spectators. In 2012, attendance at the Mustang Week Cruise-In on Saturday include dover 2,500 Mustangs and SVT's that packed the show field and surrounding parking lots. It would take the entire afternoon to walk around and see everything. Nearly 8,000 spectators got a chance to see all the cars, sponsors, and vendors. It goes without saying that the 2013 Cruise-In will be one of the largest gatherings of Mustangs you will see in one place at one time! It is a "can't miss" event. There is no registration or fee for attending, just show up and have fun! Once again, Mustang Week Staff and volunteers will be on hand to help with parking and answer any questions that you may have.

Also, for the 7th year in a row, Southeastern Foxbodies (SEFB) will hold their annual Fox Body Cruise on Saturday, July 20th. The meeting spot for this year's cruise will be from 8am – 10am at the Grand Strand Baptist Church parking lot, located just outside the Myrtle Beach Speedway. This annual cruise draws well over 100 Fox Body Mustangs and this is your chance to take part! The cruise to the Mustang Week Cruise In departs, with police escort, at 10am sharp. Go to for more details.

Southeastern Foxbodies will also be raffling off their "Save a Fox" project car on Saturday during the Cruise In. A complete car was donated (1989 LX Hatchback 4cyl) and project committee was formed from SEFB members. The club then voted on all aspects of the build, from motor to paint to interior and beyond. The club also nominated and voted on three charities to support. The project will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The Victory Junction Gang Camp and Savannah's Drive (a local 9 year old girl battling Leukemia). Member donated parts, time and money, as well as outside company donors will go to complete the build many of which are Mustang Week Sponsors. A maximum of 5,000tickets will be sold throughout the project and the winner will be drawn at Mustang Week 2013 in Myrtle Beach, SC during the Saturday Car Show awards presentation. Please see for more details on how you can get a chance to help out with fund raiser and win this awesome project car!

At 3:00 pm the awards from Friday's Car Show will be handed out at the Mustang Week's tents and trailer. Gather around and cheer on those that take home the much deserved trophies! Near the end of the afternoon we will give away the incredible raffle prizes that we will have sold tickets for all week long. There are very few shows that give out the high caliber raffle prizes that are given away at Mustang Week.

For this year's raffle we have slimmed down the volume of prizes to a handful of big-ticket items. Raffle prizes include an E-HP custom 347 c.i.d. shortblock, a complete interior kit from TMI, and car stereo equipment from Kicker! The grand prize is a Magnusson Supercharger Kit for a '05-'14 V8 Mustang.Raffle tickets will be on sale the entire week. Visit the Mustang Week trailer and tents for more info on the 2013 raffle. You must be present to win.
