Mustang Week 2013 Event Overview
Mustang Week Staff | 02.16.2012 | 18:03:27 | Views: 14628

The first thing you may notice about the Mustang Week schedule is that the majority of the events don'tstart until the afternoon. We, the Staff, want participants to have a chance to enjoy their vacation at thebeach just as much as they enjoy having fun with their cars. We are excited that people chose to spenda week in Myrtle Beach with us away from their day-to-day lives. Don't forget to stop by the MustangWeek trailer and tents to say hello, pick up Mustang Week collectibles and get an arms-length of raffletickets! Enjoy your week at the beach and drive carefully!

We start the week with a bang on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, with the annual Meet-n-Greet at the PalaceTheatre at Broadway at the Beach. The event has grown to one of the favorite events of the week. TheMustang Week Staff have again teamed up with the Palace Theatre to bring our opening event to thisincredible venue. The Palace Theatre is located at the intersection of US 17 Business and 21st Street, atthe award winning “Broadway at the Beach” Entertainment complex. The Meet-n-Greet will take placein the Palace’s northern-most parking lot, closest to US 17. The Palace Theatre venue allows the Meet-n-Greet ample parking space and provides a much smoother and controlled entrance/exit path. Thishelps make the event safer for everyone and makes it easier for Myrtle Beach vacationers to stop by andcheck out all the best that Mustang Week has to offer! The event is scheduled to run from 12:00pm until4:00pm and is a fun, informal gathering to start the week off.

The Palace Theatre plays host to some of the most spectacular live entertainment shows, Broadwaytheatre productions and musicals from around the world, including MASTERS OF ILLUSION for 2013!Their management is going to offer a special discount for Mustang Week Participants to check out thisvery exciting show. The Palace Theatre will open its lobby so participants can enjoy concessions, buydiscounted show tickets, and utilize facilities. Plus, there are many great restaurants within walkingdistance! Check out the Palace online at www.PalaceMB.com for all the entertainment options theyhave to offer.

In 2012, over 550 Mustangs and SVT's filled the lot and gave returning attendees the chance to seefriends from previous years and newcomers to meet new friends. It's very laid back and some folkscome straight off the highway from their journey to Mustang Week. You can come and go as you pleaseand with this year’s earlier schedule you have the entire evening to get a jump on all the other excitingthings Myrtle Beach has to offer. Most participants choose to get there a little early and stay the entiretime and some choose to stop by for only an hour or two. The choice is yours!

If you’ve never been to Mustang Week, the Meet-n-Greet turnout will seem overwhelming, but it is only a glimpse of the week to come! This is where you first see the major difference between Mustang Week and all other car shows and events. You will see everything from classics and pristine show cars to builtdrag cars and daily driven street cars. The Meet-n-Greet is where you get a real feel for the sense of“family” that has grown over the past nine years.

Once again, in 2013, a brand new Mustang will be unveiled for the first time to the lucky participants atthis year’s Meet-n-Greet. This will be the fourth installment for Palmetto Ford, of Charleston, SC, andthe Mustang Week Staff. We partnered together to build a one of a kind 2014 Mustang Week Edition5.0 Ford Mustang, which was designed by the Staff. Better yet, you could own one of these cars foryourself! Give Tony Barron a call at Palmetto Ford (843-343-7997) to see how you can get your handson a Mustang Week Edition 5.0!

There is no registration required and no cost for attending the Meet-n-Greet. This will also be the firstopportunity to purchase the yearly Mustang Week t-shirt and raffle tickets. The Mustang Week Staffwill be on site and available to answer any questions and provide updates and information about therest of the week's events. The Myrtle Beach Speedway manager will also be on hand to pre-registerfolks for Wednesday’s Speedway event.

A Special Tuesday Event

New for 2013, on Tuesday, July 16th, BFGoodrich Tires will host the Mustang Week Autocross DrivingSchool at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Skip Barber Racing School instructor Terry Earwood, with his staffof highly experienced professional drivers will teach students a variety of skills to lower autocross laptimes. A brief classroom session will be followed by a track walk and drive time in your car will be thefocus with the professional driver coaches riding in your passenger seat.

Two sessions will be offered:
Session 1: 10am – 1pm
Session 2: 2pm – 5pm

Entry fee will be $40 per car/driver. Seats are limited to 24 per session for maximum 1 on 1 instructionand seat time. Registration will be online on the Mustang Week website (www.mustang week.com) andwill be first come, first served.

On Wednesday, July 17, 2013, we head to the Myrtle Beach Speedway(www.myrtlebeachspeedway.com) for a day of autocross, Speedway fun runs, and the official Mustang Week burnout contest. Myrtle Beach Speedway is located just 2 miles west of the waterway bridge onUS 501, towards Conway, S.C. 2007 was the first year we included this event and it was a huge success! In 2012, the Speedway filled to capacity as 265 cars and over 1,500 people took part in the fun.

The Autocross and Speedway fun runs will run simultaneously from 10am until 5pm. The burnoutcontest will be held promptly at 5:00pm. We have confirmed that fees to participate in this year’s eventwill be $25 for car and driver. You can also come to watch all the fun from the stands for $5 per personas well. Be sure to watch the Mustang Week website (www.mustangweek.com) for more importantinformation and details on the Speedway event.

The autocross course is set up and run by experienced personnel, ensuring safety and fun. Auto crossinggives the driver the opportunity to test their driving skills on a flat, coned course. The autocross willprovide a low-speed chance to push your car's handling capability while testing the driver's skill behindthe wheel. In 2012, there was a continuous line of cars waiting to give the autocross a try. This year’sall-day schedule allows participants more chances at the course. If you’ve never tried an autocross thenyou are in for a real treat!

The Speedway fun runs are a very unique opportunity. The MB Speedway is a NASCAR sanctioned, ½-mile, oval track. Fun run participants get the chance to go out onto the track one car at a time andtake a few laps at their own pace. Staying inside the cones insures speeds are kept within safe limits. This is an excellent photo and video opportunity and an absolute thrill for the driver. Prior to theevent, Speedway and Mustang Week Staff will position cones on the racetrack to provide a safe, butchallenging line around the racetrack.

At 5pm the annual official Mustang Week Burnout Contest takes over the Speedway! Participants lineup one at a time on the racetrack to light them up for the crowd! Some of the best Mustang Weekvideos found online after the 2012 were taken during the burnout contest!

As if Wednesday couldn’t get any better, if you have paid as a participant or spectator at Wednesday’sSpeedway event prior to 5pm… you get to see the Myrtle Beach Speedway’s Wheels of DestructionThrill Show for free! This family friendly thrill show is like no other you have ever seen, full of flames, explosions, wrecks and racing! The show includes fireworks, stunt cars, freestyle motocross, bus racing, and much, much more! That’s right, after a day of autocross, fun runs on the speedway, and the everpopular burnout contest, you can then grab a seat in the stands and enjoy the Wheels of DestructionThrill Show at 7:30pm!

Thursday, July 18, 2013, we make the trek to Darlington Dragway (www.darlingtondragway.com) for the annual Mustang Week Dragnight! This event has grown by leaps and bounds the past couple ofyears and we expect 2013’s turnout to be great! The Dragway is an IHRA sanctioned ¼ mile track and islocated just west of Darlington, S.C. at 2056 E. Bobo Newsome Hwy, Hartsville, S.C., 29550. Gates willbe open from 3:00pm until 11:00pm. There is as $10 fee at the gate for spectators and a $15 fee forthose who wish to take part in the event. The Dragnight event is run in a test-n-tune format, allowingparticipants to take as many runs as they would like and as time will allow. This gives the driver theopportunity to try out their car and their skill on the ¼ mile for fun. In 2012, 265 cars participated and1,800 spectators watched all the Dragnight excitement. Staging lanes will be open all afternoon andevening and last year we heard of several participants that were able to make more than 15 passes!

Many of the Mustang Week sponsors and vendors will be set up at the Dragnight as well! It is a nightfilled with excitement!

ALL cars and drivers are expected to use the safety gear required by Darlington International Dragway(www.darlingtondragway.com). Drivers are expected to wear closed-toed shoes while on the track, and long pants are preferred.

We feel that getting to the Dragnight is half the fun! A few participants and spectators choose to drivestraight to the venue and some will come straight to the Dragway on their way to Mustang Week. Mostwill gather just before noon at the Hooters located at Myrtle Beach Mall near the intersection of US 17and SC 22. Soon after lunch we will kick off an informal, hour and a half cruise to Darlington Dragway. To most, the cruise to Darlington has become a yearly tradition! The Mustang Week Staff will be onhand to hand out directions to the Dragway and answer any questions you may have. As folks head outfor Darlington, people follow along in small and large groups on their way to Darlington. There are noofficial lead cars, so if you haven’t made the trip before, find someone before the cruise takes off andfollow behind. It is very exciting to see so many Mustangs and SVT's out on the road at the same time!In years past, there have been as many as 300 cars that took part in the cruise to Darlington. Needlessto say, this provides some excellent photo and video opportunities. It also goes without saying that thismany Mustangs and SVT’s draws the attention of local law enforcement agencies, so please obey alltraffic laws and have a safe trip to and from the drag strip!

Time to clean up your ride on Friday, July 19th, 2013 as the 10th Annual Mustang Week Car Show takesover Myrtle Beach Mall (intersection of US 17 and SC 22). The 2012 show brought another sell-outcrowd of 600 cars in the show and just over 7,500 spectators! The car show is open to all years of FordMustangs and SVT vehicles and has quickly become one of the best all-around Mustang car shows onthe East Coast. Spectators and participants will have the chance to see everything from mild to wild andfrom classic Ponies to late models just off the lot!

Mustangs and SVTs will be judged on the overall cleanliness and quality of presentation. We will lookat the interior of the car, the engine compartment, the body, the wheels, and tires. We will not judgeconvertible tops or side glass since they are optioned to be down during the judging period. Sincemost people make the trip to Mustang Week in their Mustang and carry most of the cleaning gear withthem, we will not judge trunks either. People who do win at the Mustang Week Car Show take cleaningserious and it shows. The Staff understands that you are not at home with all your "normal" cleaningproducts and procedures. BUT... each year folks drive a long way to Mustang Week and always manageto get their cars REALLY clean!

For those that wish to be part of the judging, the pre-registration fee is $30. Registration forthe judged portion of the car show will be by pre-register only on the Mustang Week website(www.mustangweek.com) and will open in mid April. The car show always sells out online prior tothe actual event, so register early to ensure you get a spot. No late entries will be accepted. Someparticipants choose the "display only" option for $10, which will be available for online registration aswell. Check-in for the show will be between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. Judging will run from 11:00 am until4:00 pm. This year we ask that all participants in the judged portion of the show please do not take yourcar out of the show field until the Mustang Week Staff announces that judging is completed. It wouldbe a shame if your car qualified for a “best of” trophy and it was not there for Staff review after initialjudging was completed.

A special thanks goes out to LMR, presenting and awarding the Awards of Excellence for the Mustang Week 2012 Car Show.

The car show awards will be presented at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 20th in front of the MustangWeek tents and trailer. The show field is located in the southwestern corner of the mall's parking lot, adjacent to Bass Pro Shops. Participants will enter the show field on the service road at the rear of themall. Mustang Week Staff and volunteers will be present to help with parking. In 2013 we will again belooking for judging volunteers and if you have prior judging experience, it will be your way to becomemore involved with Mustang Week!

The Mustang Week sponsors and vendors will be out in full force at the show as well. This offersparticipants and spectators the opportunity to talk one-on-one with industry professionals and get greatdeals on some of the hottest new products. Pro-Dyno will again be on hand with their portable dyno togive you a chance to see what kind of power your car/truck can make!

One company really stepped up and raised the bar in 2012 and is returning for the 2013 Mustang WeekCar Show! The Awards of Excellence for this year’s show are presented and sponsored by Late ModelRestoration. We are very excited to announce this partnership and winners of an Award of Excellencewill be thrilled with the trophy that includes Late Model Restoration’s and Mustang Week’s logos!

Saturday, July 20, 2013, ends the week-long fun with the East Coast’s Largest Mustang and SVT Cruise-In! The Cruise-In takes place at the Myrtle Beach Mall (same venue as Friday's Car Show) and runs from12:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The sheer volume of Mustangs and SVT's at the Cruise-In never ceases to amazeparticipants and spectators.
