Mustang Week 2012 Recap
Mustang Week Staff | 09.22.2012 | 14:23:45
The second decade of Mustang Week began with an overwhelming success! The
Mustang Week Staff would like to extend our most sincere thanks to
everyone that has helped Mustang Week become the premier Mustang and
SVT-based event in the country. It amazes us to watch as Mustang Week
continues to steadily grow. Of course, Mustang Week’s success would have
been possible without the help of our sponsors, vendors, and participants.
We are grateful for the support they continue to give. We understand what
it takes for sponsors and participants to attend a week-long event. Simply
put, without you Mustang Week simply would not happen.
We kicked off the week with the Mustang Week VIP party at Ride Makerz at
Broadway at the Beach. This was the third annual VIP Party where Ride
Makerz gave 100 lucky participants a free toy car to build and customize.
There were some excited kids and adults!
Tuesday’s Meet-n-Greet at the Palace Theatre was awesome! Just over 550
cars were in attendance as Mustangs and SVTs filled every available
parking space as the Meet-n-Greet moved to its new home at the Palace.
Overflow had to park in the grass area surrounding the event. The
Meet-n-Greet event has quickly become a crowd and Staff favorite. Folks
lined up the entire afternoon to be one of the first to get one of the
highly anticipated yearly Mustang Week t-shirts! To take this event to a
whole new level, Vaughn Gitten, Jr., driver of the Monster Energy Falken
Tire Ford Racing Mustang, was on hand to sign autographs and then unveil
the new Mustang RTR!
Wednesday carried Mustang Week back to the
Myrtle Beach Speedway for a day
of ground-pounding fun! In the morning autocross veterans and newcomers
took a turn at the infield course. The autocross has quickly become a
yearly favorite for many. The excitement really started to heat up when
Vaughn Gitten, Jr. took to the 1/2-mile oval for a drifting demonstration.
This was one of the coolest things we have ever seen at Mustang Week! Just
after lunch we transitioned over to Fun Runs around the 1/2-mile oval. The
new track ownership and management allowed this year’s track setup to be a
much more spirited experience. 265 cars took part and just over 1500
attendees watched all the excitement. After the Fun Runs, the annual
Burnout Contest did not disappoint! And, as all of this wasn’t enough,
many participants and spectators stuck around to enjoy the Speedway’s
Wheels of Destruction Thrill Show.
On Thursday, we ventured to Darlington International Dragway for the
annual Mustang Week Dragnight. This event continues to grow in popularity
and the numbers show it! 265 cars participated and nearly 1800 spectators
watched all the quarter-mile fun. The night
was action packed and for a
third year in a row, spectators filled the stands on both sides of the
racetrack. The Darlington Dragway staff really stepped up their game and
had the track ready to run just after participants started to arrive.
Staging lanes were open all afternoon and evening and we have never seen
them lined up so deep! Even though the weather afforded us a short break
from the action, the lanes opened back up and the event ran until nearly
midnight.
As always, Friday’s Car Show continues to amaze all in attendance! The
"sold out" show field was filled with over 600 of the finest Mustangs and
SVT’s to be found. We even had to park many of the display only cars in
overflow parking. Participants and attendees could also get a good look at
all of the Mustang Week Sponsors and Vendors who were out in full-force.
Monster Energy Drinks returned again this year and really added to the
excitement. Miss Jessica Barton returned along with Miss Brooke Weisbender
to sign posters
as well! The Mustang Week Staff again called on the help
of Stangs-R-Us Mustang Club to quickly and efficiently park the show
field. Their help was very valuable! Walking this show field gave
spectators and participants a chance to see the best the Mustang community
has to offer. This year we asked participants step up and volunteer as car
show judges and a great group answered the call. With their help, judging
was completed just ahead of schedule. In 2013 we will again be looking for
judging volunteers and if you have prior judging experience, it can be
your way to become more involved with Mustang Week!
Saturday we closed the week with the annual Mustang Week Cruise-In. The
Cruise-In is the largest gathering of Mustangs and SVT’s found on the east
coast! Over 2500 cars quickly filled the show field and surrounding lots.
Full Throttle Car Club jumped in this
year to help us with the parking and
this really helped move participants in quickly. Several model-specific
cruises added to the excitement. The annual Fox Body cruise, the SN95/New
Edge cruise, and the Coyote cruise all gave participants to roll into the
Mustang Week Cruise-In in style! In the afternoon, hundreds gathered
around the Mustang Week tent for the Car Show awards. Many deserving
owners left smiling with a sought-after Mustang Week trophy!
The
Eleventh Annual Mustang Week was again a total success! Thank you to
everyone who attended and took part, especially the Mustang Week Sponsors
and participants. We are already hard at work to make sure 2013 is off the
charts.
The Staff has really enjoyed watching the events grow over the past eleven
years and look forward to seeing you all next July for the Twelfth Annual
Mustang Week!

Mustang Week 2012 Program Guide, we have some incredible sponsors lined up
this year and many will be on display during the week, especially at the
Car Show and Cruise-In. Without the help of all the sponsors, Mustang Week
would not be possible. So please take the time to visit the sponsors and
take advantage of the great onsite deals they offer to Mustang Week

Mustang Week 2012 Event Overview
Mustang Week Staff | 02.16.2012 | 18:03:27
The
first thing you may notice about the Mustang Week schedule is that the
majority of the events don't start until the afternoon. We, the Staff,
want participants to have a chance to enjoy their vacation at the beach
just as much as they enjoy having fun with their cars. We are excited that
people chose to spend a week in Myrtle Beach with us away from their
day-to-day lives. Don't forget to stop by the Mustang Week trailer and
tents to say hello, pick up Mustang Week collectibles and get an
arms-length of raffle tickets! Enjoy your week at the beach and drive
carefully!
Mustang pre-event fun returns in 2012!
Once again, at 11:00pm on Monday, July 16, Ridemakerz will host a special
Mustang Week VIP party at their Broadway at the
Beach location. 100 lucky
people will get a FREE Basic Stock Ride just for attending. The Free Basic
Stock Ride includes a cool Ride body like a 2010 Ford Mustang, Stock Treadz, Stock Wheelz and a Free Wheelin Chassis! You can choose to trick
your ride out more with our many options including Radio Control at
regular listed prices. At Ridemakerz there are 649 million ways to build a
one-of-a-kind Ride! There are many Ridez to choose from, including several
Mustangs! Check out
www.ridemakerz.com to see all the available Mustang Ride bodies and be
sure to keep checking the Mustang Week forums for info on eligibility!
We start the week with a bang on Tuesday (July
17, 2012) with the annual Meet-n-Greet!
Mustang Week and the
Palace Theatre are partnering together for Mustang Week 2012 and are very
excited to announce that the Meet-n-Greet for 2012 will be held at the
Palace Theatre at Broadway at the Beach. The event has grown to one of the
favorite events of the week. The Mustang Week Staff searched and have
teamed up with the Palace Theatre to bring our opening event to a new
venue. The Palace Theatre is located at the intersection of US 17 Business
and 21st Street, at the award winning "Broadway at
the Beach"
Entertainment complex. The Meet-n-Greet will take place in the Palace's
northern-most parking lot, closest to US 17. The Palace Theatre venue will
allow the Meet-n-Greet ample parking space and will provide a much
smoother and controlled entrance/exit path. This will make the event safer
for everyone and will make it easier for Myrtle Beach vacationers to stop
by and check out all the best that Mustang Week has to offer! The event is
scheduled to run from 12:00pm until 4:00pm and is a fun, informal
gathering to start the week off.
The Palace Theatre plays host to some of the most spectacular live
entertainment shows, Broadway theatre productions and musicals from around
the world, including
LE GRAND CIRQUE ADRENALINE for the summer of 2012! Their management is
going to offer a very special discount for Mustang Week Participants to
check out this very exciting show. The Palace Theatre will open its lobby
so participants can enjoy concessions, buy discounted show tickets, and
utilize facilities. There many great restaurants which are within walking
distance! Check out the Palace online at
PalaceMB.com for
all the entertainment options they have to offer.
In 2011, over 500 Mustangs and SVT's filled the lot and gave returning
attendees the chance to see friends from previous years and newcomers to
meet new friends. It's very laid back and some folks come straight off the
highway from their journey to Mustang Week. You can come and go as you
please and with this year's earlier schedule you have the entire evening
to get a jump on all the other exciting things Myrtle Beach has to offer.
Most participants choose to get there a little early and stay the entire
time
and some choose to stop by for only an hour or two. The choice is
yours! The Meet-n-Greet is where you get a real feel for the sense of
"family" that has grown over the past nine years. There is no registration
required and no cost for attending the Meet-n-Greet. This will also be the
first opportunity to purchase the yearly Mustang Week t-shirt and raffle
tickets. The Mustang Week Staff will be on site and available to answer
any questions and provide updates and information about the rest of the
week's events. The Myrtle Beach Speedway manager will also be on hand to
pre-register folks for Wednesday's Speedway event.
On Wednesday, July 18, 2012, we head
over to the Myrtle Beach Speedway (www.myrtlebeachspeedway.com)
for autocross, Speedway fun runs, and burnout contest. Myrtle Beach
Speedway is located just 2 miles west of the waterway bridge on US 501,
towards Conway, S.C. 2007 was the first year we included this event and it
was a huge success! In 2011, the Speedway filled to capacity as 220 cars
and just over 1,500 people took part in the fun. We recognized that this
events popularity required a major schedule overhaul for 2011, allowing
more participants to enjoy the day's fun!
The autocross will run from 10pm until 2pm. Then there will be a short
break to clear the autocross field for increased infield parking. The
Speedway fun runs will be from 3pm until 8pm. The burnout contest will be
held promptly at 8:30pm. We have confirmed that fees to participate this
year's event will be $25 for car and driver and $5 for each additional
person. You can also come to watch all the fun from the stands for $5 per
person as well. Be sure to watch the Mustang Week website (www.mustangweek.com)
for more important information and details on the Speedway event.
The autocross course is set up and run by experienced personnel, ensuring
safety and fun. Auto crossing gives the driver the opportunity to test
their driving skills on a flat, coned course! The autocross will provide a
low-speed chance to push your car's handling capability while testing the
driver's skill behind the wheel! In 2011, there was a continuous line of
cars waiting to give the autocross a try. The revised schedule allows
participants more chances at the course! If you've never tried an
autocross then you are in for a real treat!
The Speedway fun runs are a very unique opportunity. The MB Speedway is a
NASCAR sanctioned, ½-mile, oval track. Fun run participants get the chance
to go out onto the track one car at a time and take a few laps at their
own pace. Staying inside the cones insures speeds are kept within safe
limits. This is an excellent photo and video opportunity and
an absolute
thrill for the driver. Prior to the event, Speedway and MW Staff will lay
cones on the racetrack to provide a safe, but challenging line around the
racetrack.
The night ends with the annual Mustang Week Burnout Contest! Participants
line up one at a time on the racetrack to light them up for the crowd!
Some of the best Mustang Week videos found online after the 2011 were
taken during the burnout contest!
Thursday, July 19, 2012, we make the
trek back to Darlington Dragway (www.darlingtondragway.com)
for the annual Mustang Week Dragnight! The Dragway is an IHRA sanctioned ¼
mile track and is located just west of Darlington, S.C. at 2056 E. Bobo
Newsome Hwy, Hartsville, S.C., 29550. Gates will be open from 3:00pm until
11:00pm. There is as $10 fee at the gate for spectators and a $15 fee for
those who wish to take part in the event. The Dragnight event is run in
the test-n-tune format, meaning participants can feel free to take as many
runs as time will allow. This gives the driver the opportunity to try out
their car and their skill on the ¼ mile for fun. In 2011, 195 cars
participated and
1,500 spectators watched all the Dragnight excitement.
Staging lanes will be open all afternoon and evening and last year we
heard of several participants that were able to make more than 15 passes!
ALL cars and drivers are expected to use the safety gear required by
Darlington International Dragway (www.darlingtondragway.com).
Several Mustang Week sponsors and vendors, including Pro-Dyno
(704-651-3807 to schedule dyno time), will be set up at the Dragnight as
well!
We feel that getting to the Dragnight is half the fun! A few participants
and spectators choose to drive straight to the venue and some will come
straight to the Dragway on their way to Mustang Week. Most will gather
just before noon at the Hooters located at Myrtle Beach Mall near the
intersection of US 17 and SC 22. Soon after lunch we will kick off an
informal, hour and a half cruise to Darlington Dragway. To most, the
cruise to Darlington has become a yearly tradition! The Mustang Week Staff
will be on hand to hand out directions to the Dragway and answer any
questions you may have. As folks head out f or Darlington, people follow
along in small and large groups on their way to Darlington. There are no
official lead cars, so if you haven't made the trip before, find someone
before the cruise takes off and follow behind. It is very exciting to see
so many Mustangs and SVT's out on the road at the same time! In years
past, there have been as many as 250 cars that took part in the cruise to
Darlington. Needless to say, this provides some excellent photo and video
opportunities. It also goes without saying that this many Mustangs and
SVT's draws the attention of local law enforcement agencies, so please
obey all traffic laws and have a safe trip to and from the drag strip!
Time to clean up your ride on Friday July 20th
2012, as the 9th Annual Mustang Week Car Show takes over Myrtle
Beach Mall (intersection of US 17 and SC 22). The 2011 show brought
another sell-out crowd of 600 cars in the show and just over 7,500
spectators! The car show is open to all years of Ford
Mustangs and SVT vehicles and has quickly become one of the best
all-around Mustang car shows on the East Coast. Spectators and
participants will have the chance to see everything from mild to wild and
from classic Ponies to late models just off the lot!
Mustangs and SVT's will be judged bases on the overall cleanliness and
quality of presentation. We will look at the interior of the car, the
engine compartment, the body, the wheels and tires. We will not judge
convertible tops or side glass since they are optioned to be down during
the judging period. We will not judge trunks as well. The people
who do win at the Mustang Week Car Show take cleaning serious and it
shows. The Staff understands that you are not at home with all your
"normal" cleaning products and procedures. BUT... each year folks drive a
long way to Mustang Week and always manage to get their cars REALLY clean!
For those that wish to be part of the judging, the fee is $30.
Registration for the judged portion of the car show will be by
pre-register only on the Mustang Week
website (www.mustangweek.com)
and will open in mid April. The car show will
sell out online prior to the actual event, so register early to
ensure you get a spot. After registration closes, there will be no late
entries. Participants may choose to "display only" for $10, which will be
available for online registration as well. Check-in for the show will be
between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. Judging will run from 11:00 am until 4:00
pm. This year we ask that all participants in the judged portion of the
show please do not take your car out of the show field until the Mustang
Week Staff announces that judging is completed. It would be a shame if
your car qualified for a "best of" trophy and it was not there for Staff
review after initial judging was completed.
The car show awards will be presented at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 21st in
front of the Mustang Week tents and trailer. The show field is located in
the southwestern corner of the mall's parking lot, adjacent to Bass Pro
Shops. Participants will enter access the show field on the service road
at the rear of the mall. Mustang Week Staff and volunteers will be present
to help with parking. In 2012 we will again be looking for judging
volunteers and if you have prior judging experience, it will be your way
to become more involved with Mustang Week!
The Mustang Week sponsors and vendors will be out in full force at the
show as well. This offers participants and spectators the opportunity to
talk one-on-one with industry professionals and get great deals on some of
the hottest new products. 2011 sponsors and vendors included Ford Racing,
5.0 Magazine, Monster Energy Drinks, Lethal Performance, UPR, Fastlane
Motorsports, Blow By Racing, JLT, Saleen, Inc., Mustangs Unlimited ,
Silverhorse Racing, Pypes, Redline Tuning, and many
more! Pro-Dyno will
again be on hand with their portable dyno to give you a chance to see what
kind of power your car/truck can make!
One company has stepped up and raised the bar for the 2012 Mustang Week
Car Show! The Awards of Excellence for this year's show are presented and
sponsored by Late Model Restoration! We are very excited to
announce this partnership and winners of an Award of Excellence will be
thrilled with the trophy that includes Late Model Restoration's and
Mustang Week's logos!
Saturday, July 21, 2012, ends the
week-long fun with the East Coast's Largest Mustang and SVT Cruise-In! The
Cruise-In takes place at the Myrtle Beach Mall (same venue as Friday's Car
Show) and runs from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The sheer volume of Mustangs
and SVT's at the Cruise-In never ceases to amaze participants and
spectators. In 2010, attendance at the Mustang Week Cruise-In on Saturday
over 2,000 Mustangs and SVT's packed the show field and surrounding parking
lots! It would take the entire afternoon to walk around and see
everything! Nearly 8,000 spectators got a chance to see all the cars,
sponsors, and vendors! It goes without saying that the 2012 Cruise-In will
be one of the largest gatherings of Mustangs you will see in one place at
one time! It is a "can't miss" event! There is no fee for attending and no
registration, just show up and have fun! Once again, Mustang Week Staff
and volunteers will be on hand to help with parking and answer any questions that you may have.

At 3:00 pm we will give out the awards from Friday's Car Show. Gather
around and cheer on those that take home the much deserved trophies! Near
the end of the evening we will give out the car show awards and give away
the incredible raffle prizes that we will have sold tickets for all week
long. There are very few shows that give out the high caliber raffle
prizes that are given away at Mustang Week. Don't forget to bring all the
raffle tickets you've collected throughout the week! You must be present
to win!
