DRAG RACING RULES & INFORMATION
Vehicles:
The following vehicles are welcome:
- All Fords, F150, Trucks, Lightings & Raptors
- All Ford Mustangs (all years) & Capri’s
- Speciality Fords or Mustangs like Saleen, RTR, Roush, etc.
- Any Ford-powered or Ford-bodied Vehicles
- Ford-bodied vehicles with non-Ford engines (i..e, LS conversions)
- Ford-powered vehicles (non-Ford bodies, i.e., Rat Rod with Coyote)
- Vehicle may be street-legal or race only.
True Street Vehicles: must be Ford-bodied, street-legal, insured and registered, but may have non-Ford powerplants, i.e., LS Swap.
Pre-Registration
If you plan on racing or entering the show, we STRONGLY suggest you PRE-REGISTER. Tech/show cards MAY be sold out.

Tickets:
Tickets are available in advance as well as at the gate. Go to Mustangweek.com to pre-purchase tickets and race entries. Save time by purchasing in advance. You must have a participant ticket to purchase drag racing or oval track racing.
Classes:
Test and Tune – Open Test and Tune
Grudge – Pair up with your buddies to grudge race
True Street – 30-mile Cruise and then three back to back runs.
True Street / Street Class – for 200+ treadwear rear tires and no skinnies! Full-size fronts only.
Tremec Stick Shift Shootout – for H-pattern, foot-actuated stick-equipped vehicles, this is a class run within True Street and then afterward for the top 4 cars.
Safety & General Information
- You must have proper safety equipment. EVERYONE must have a helmet as per 2025 NHRA Safety Rules. Your vehicle must pass a basic safety inspection.
- Drivers must have a valid state driver’s license or NHRA Competition License and sign a Waiver and Release form before being allowed to participate.
- Please keep in mind basic safety rules:
- Must wear long-pants
- Must wear T-shirt (no tank tops)
- Closed Toe-shoes (no crocs, flip flops, sandals)
- Bring a helmet
Mustang Week Registration Packages
Your official Mustang Week registration package—complete with your registration cards and event information—will begin to be mailed around March 27, 2026. Keep an eye on your mailbox in the weeks that follow. This package ensures you’re fully prepared and ready to enjoy the event from the moment you arrive. If you purchase an entry after March 27 or at the gate, you’ll need to pick up your registration package at the Event.

Mustang Week True Street
Rules & Information
Mustang Week True Street is a drag-and-drive “style” competition held during Mustang Week Drag Day, designed to test real street/strip performance. Street-legal Mustangs, Fords, F-150s, and Ford-powered vehicles compete for fun, bragging rights, and awards.
Event Format
True Street competition consists of:
- A mandatory 30-mile supervised street cruise
- Three back-to-back 1/8-mile drag strip passes
- All competitors must complete the cruise under their own power
- Safety rules apply at all times
Participants may run Test & Tune and/or Grudge Racing before and after True Street competition. Drivers must hold a valid driver’s license, and vehicles must be currently registered and insured.
IMPORTANT – READ CAREFULLY
You must complete registration and tech inspection and report to the staging lanes with your vehicle for the mandatory True Street driver’s meeting. Your vehicle must be fully prepared to immediately depart for the 30-mile cruise following the driver’s meeting. Failure to be staged and ready may result in disqualification.
Sign-In & Tech Inspection
- If you have your registration package, proceed to tech inspection. If not, go to registration.
- Once approved, a tech sticker will be applied to your vehicle.
- After tech, you may participate in Test & Tune, then report to the staging lanes for the mandatory driver’s meeting (listen for announcements).
Competition Rules
- Each vehicle will make three (3) 1/8-mile
- ETs will be averaged from all three
- You must complete all three passes to be eligible for awards.
- Vehicle Rules:
- Must be street-legal, registered, and insured
- Functional headlights, taillights, turn signals, and horn
- Exhaust with mufflers required
- DOT-legal tires front and rear

Street Class
Vehicles running:
- 200+ treadwear tires on the rear
- Full-size front tires (205mm or wider)
If your vehicle qualifies, you will be automatically be also entered into the Street Class, while remaining eligible for all other awards (Overall True Street, Stick Shift Shootout, E.T. Average awards)
Mandatory Driver’s Meeting & Cruise
Driver’s Meeting
- Mandatory attendance in the staging lanes
- Followed immediately by the street cruise
- Vehicles must be lined up and ready to leave
True Street Cruise
- 30-mile supervised cruise on public roads.
- Only vehicles that passed tech may participate.
- Passengers are permitted.
- All participants are responsible for obeying traffic laws.
- Support vehicles may follow behind the cruise group but must remain behind the escort, are not part of the official competition, and must obey all traffic laws.
- Cruise completion is mandatory, vehicles unable to complete the cruise under their own power, within the allotted time, will be disqualified.
- Vehicles falling behind the trailing escort will be disqualified
- Cool-Down Period – After the cruise, vehicles return directly to the staging lanes for a group cool-down period (approximately 15–45 minutes). During this time:
- You may NOT open the hood. Opening the hood results in DQ from awards (vehicle may still race).
- Trunk or hatch may be opened
- You may refuel, change nitrous bottles, and pack intercooler ice as long as it doesn’t involve opening the hood.
- No tire changes allowed.
Race Process
- When called to load, competitors must prepare for three back-to-back passes
- Hoods, decklid or trunk, must remain closed until all three runs are completed
- No adding fuel, nitrous, or ice once racing begins.
- .400 Pro Tree
- Courtesy staging encouraged
- Tire pressure adjustments allowed between runs
Additional Rules
- Runs must occur in the same order as the first pass
- No intentional delays or extra cool-down time
- Parachute repacking permitted if required, without delaying competition
- Vehicle must start under its own power
- No external battery charging permitted
Final Standings & Awards
- After all three passes, E.T.s are averaged
- Final standings are determined
- Awards presentation will take place on Saturday at Mustang Week
Mustang Week Test & Tune/Grudge – Rules & Information
This is a non-payout class where you are just making the best runs you can – it’s more about fun than competition. It’s 1/8 mile and a .400 pro tree. You can race a buddy or just race the clock. This class will run the entire day, and there will be a staging lane setup. You can also be a Grudge/No-Time lane if you prefer (there will be a lane for this). You must pass safety tech, and have a valid US Driver’s license and/or a license for your ET.
Oval Track Racing – Rules & Information
Spectator Drags are held on the HMP Oval with a 3/8-mile oval. Spectator drags are open to all Ford-powered or Ford-bodied vehicles (swaps OK). Engine or body must be a Ford. Must be rear-wheel drive. No four wheel drive capable vehicles are permitted. All vehicles must be currently registered, tagged, and insured. Dealer plates are not permitted.
Fun runs are solo runs on the HMP oval. Each fun run and/or test run are timed to approx. (1) minute (or) 3 laps (whichever is longer) before you will be flagged off. You may stop and reset on the starting line if you are practicing for the Pizza & Beer class.
Pizza & Beer class is a fun “spectator drags” race where two vehicles compete against each other in drag races around the oval.
Tech Inspection
Vehicles will undergo tech inspection. Vehicle must pass safety inspection. Once inspection is completed a sticker will be attached to your vehicle.
Vehicles & Driver Rules
- Chassis & Body: Vehicles must have a STOCK chassis and be street legal. Convertibles, even with roll bars, are prohibited.
- Tires: Only DOT-approved tires are allowed for participation.
- Prohibited Modifications: No ballast or nitrous oxide is allowed. Even if nitrous is disabled, the bottle cannot be present inside the vehicle.
- Driver Requirements: Participants must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.
- Vehicles: Must be registered and insured.
- Safety Gear: A full-face helmet rated SA2015 or newer is required. No half helmets allowed. Seat belts must be worn at all times.
- Passengers: No passengers are allowed.
Race (“Pizza & Beer”) Format:
- All contestants can test during fun runs and in designated test sessions.
- All fun run competitors are eligible to enter the pizza and class.
- Vehicles will start on a green light signal.
- Racing 1 lap around the HMP Oval (3/8 mile) in a 1 vs 1 format.
- Pairings will be determined by chip draw and organized into a competition ladder.
- When we are down to (4) competitors (starting from quarterfinals), races will be best 2 out of 3 to determine winners.
- The loser will return to the pits and will be eliminated from the competition.
- The winner must get back in line immediately for the next round or face forfeiture.
- First to cross the finish line is the winner of each round.
- Each competitor must either agree, or coin flip for starting position.
- This class is designed for casual racers who are here for fun and friendly competition.
- Contact: No intentional contact between vehicles is permitted under any circumstances.
- Repairs: No significant repairs or adjustments between rounds will be allowed, as this will be a hot-lap format.
- Mandatory Drivers Meeting: Attendance at the driver’s meeting is required to participate.
Prizes:
Trophies will provided to top 4
The top 4 racers will earn prizes. (Semi-finals, runner up and finals). Semi-finals and runner up win trophies.
The overall winner will receive a custom trophy, a 12-pack of beer and two pizzas!
