Tremec Powers Mustang Week Texas ‘26 Drag Day

Mustang Week Texas Presented by Late Model Restoration is gearing up for another massive year, returning April 14-18, 2026 for five days of horsepower, smoke, speed, and all-around Mustang culture centered in Galveston. Each day brings its own flavor of excitement, but Thursday April 16th will become the day where the action truly becomes impossible to miss. That’s when the Mustang Week crew heads to Houston Motorsports Park for Drag Day, and for 2026, the stakes and energy are rising once again.

We’re excited to announce that Tremec is the official sponsor of Thursday’s Mustang Week Texas Drag Day. Few names carry more weight in performance driveline engineering, and the Tremec badge is a perfect fit for a day built around hard launches, clean shifts, grudge battles, and all-out Ford performance. Drag day features a wide range of action on both the drag strip and the HMP oval, making it one of the most diverse and entertaining stops of the entire week.

A Full Day of Ford Power at HMP

This year, we’re sliding the day further into the evening with event times running from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Houston Motorsports Park. Those looking to get set up early are welcome to join us at the track starting at 11 a.m. Drag Day blends racing, oval action, and drifting all in one place. Whether you are there to run, watch, compete, or just hang out with fellow Mustang faithful, Thursday packs something for every type of enthusiast.

The heart of Drag Day is, of course, the eighth-mile HMP drag strip. The Open Test and Tune is back for 2026, giving drivers the freedom to make as many passes as time allows. Whether you are dialing in a new setup or chasing tenths, Test and Tune offers the perfect place to put your Mustang to work. Alongside it will be Grudge Racing, where bragging rights are earned the old-fashioned way: call out your buddies, line up, and settle things on the track where there are no excuses and the cars do the talking.

True Street Challenge Returns

One of the most anticipated parts of Drag Day is the True Street Class. This competition captures the spirit of real-world Mustang ownership with its street cruise and back-to-back passes. Drivers begin with a 30-mile cruise, return to the track, and then make three consecutive runs down the strip. It’s a test of vehicle and driver skill, and last year it drew a strong field of Mustangs of all generations. Kicking off in 2025, we anticipate the True Street Class will become one of the cornerstones of Mustang Week Texas, and 2026 will be no different.

Spectators Drags and Oval Fun Runs

Outside the drag strip, the HMP oval brings its own brand of fun. Oval Fun Runs let participants take laps at their own pace, giving drivers a chance to experience the banking without the pressure of competition. For fans looking for something more lively, the Spectator Drags Pizza and Beer Class returns with parade laps, eliminations, and a winner who walks away with bragging rights, a 12-pack of beer, and two pizzas. Last year our friend Ryan (a.k.a @grgbuiltcoyote) took home the grand prize in his ‘65 Mustang.

Drift Exhibitions and Ride Alongs

Drifting fans will also have plenty to look forward to. Drifting ride-alongs return to the HMP oval, putting spectators in the passenger seat with pro-level drivers like Vaughn Gittin Jr., Ben Hobson, Chris Leonard, Diego Sandoval, Morgan Oldham and more! Sign-ups will be available onsite and fill up fast, so arriving early is recommended.

While most details for Drag Day presented by Tremec are set, we have a few more surprises that will be announced in the next few months leading up to Mustang Week Texas. Be sure to stay tuned on our social channels to be the first to know!
